What Would the Raiders Do? They Would Relocate, Even During COVID-19

The future home to the National Football League Raiders and UNLV football, Allegiant Stadium had its sign installed in mid-March. The stadium is on schedule for its July 31 completion.

This is what we know: The Las Vegas Raiders are ready for their first kickoff at Allegiant Stadium.

This is what pigskin insiders predict: The NFL will cut the 2020 preseason in half resulting in one (only 1!) preseason game at Allegiant. Against the Arizona Cardinals on Aug. 27.

This is what we don’t know: If the 2020 NFL regular season, scheduled to begin on Sept. 10, will start on time, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Certainly, the Raiders move from California to Nevada has had a lot of hiccups and hitches, like any mass relocation. COVID magnified all the bumps on the road, but you know what? The Raiders are ready to march downfield, and you can be, too. Don’t let a pandemic stop your moving plans.

The good news is that it can be safe to move during this extreme health crisis. Mind you, I am not downplaying, in the least, the severity of the pandemic. At all. There is potential risk if you don’t follow necessary precautions.

How about this for a hypothetical situation? Your moving plan was signed and sealed right before isolation mandates. The unusually long escrow went through, and now you have to relocate.

First off, make sure your moving company is in compliance (or beyond) with safety guidelines. Has anyone been exposed to COVID? Will workers be wearing masks and gloves while on the job? Is equipment, such as dollies, pads, ties, and trucks, sanitized?

Now, you do the same for the moving company. Sanitize your belongings. Have family members practice social distancing, wear gloves and face masks, and reschedule if someone doesn’t feel well. Have you arranged to have your new home sanitized, as well as your former one? Do that. Now.

Adding a few extra layers of caution to your game plan is the best way to navigate moving (or anything, really) during COVID. Your new home is waiting. Settle in, be safe, and remember to social distance.

Just for kicks – How about these stats on Allegiant Stadium?

  • Location: Paradise, Nevada

  • Capacity: 65,000

  • Acreage: 62

  • Opening date: Aug. 22 for Garth Brooks concert; Aug. 27 for Raider’s preseason game.

  • Cost: $1.84 billion
